Diabetes Hall of Fame - A Non Profit Family Initiative

Diabetes Hall of Fame® is a non-profit family initiative, founded by Marie Fahlin together with her daughters Nadja and Amanda Johansson.

Marie was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 20 — completely unexpected, even though her grandfather had also lived with the condition. He was fortunate to be diagnosed after the discovery of insulin and lived a long life without complications. But his brother developed type 1 diabetes before insulin was available and sadly did not survive.

Type 1 diabetes is rarely passed down through generations — but unfortunately, that has not been the case in their family. Many years later, the family faced diabetes again when Amanda was diagnosed at only 8 years old. It was a difficult time, most of all for Amanda, but also for the whole family — especially for Nadja, just one year older, who suddenly became “the youngest big sister in the world.”

Out of these experiences grew a conviction: people living with diabetes need positive inspiration to face the challenges of a lifelong condition. Managing diabetes does not diminish anyone’s talent or ability — but it does make everyday life more demanding. That is why the family created Diabetes Hall of Fame®: to give credit to well-known role models who achieve greatness while living with diabetes, often without the world even knowing they have it.

By honoring these individuals, Diabetes Hall of Fame® seeks to spread hope and strength to others with diabetes — as well as to their families and friends. Because while diabetes changes life, it does not define its limits.
